Complete positivity for time-dependent qubit master equations

چکیده
It is shown that if the decoherence matrix corresponding to a qubit master equation has a block-diagonal real part, then the evolution is determined by a one-dimensional oscillator equation. Further, when the decoherence matrix itself is block-diagonal, then the necessary and sufficient conditions for completely positive evolution may be formulated in terms of the oscillator Hamiltonian or Lagrangian. When the solution of the oscillator equation is not known, an explicit sufficient condition for complete positivity can still be obtained, based on a Hamiltonian/Lagrangian inequality. A rotational form-invariance property is used to characterise the evolution via a single first-order nonlinear differential equation, enabling some further exact results to be obtained. A class of master equations is identified for which complete positivity reduces to the simpler condition of positivity.

Completely positive approximate solutions of driven open quantum systems.
We define a perturbative approximation for the solution of Lindblad master equations with time-dependent generators that satisfies the fundamental property of complete positivity, as essential for quantum simulations and optimal control. With explicit examples we show that ensuring this property substantially improves the accuracy of the perturbative approximation.

Master equations are increasingly popular for the simulation of time-dependent electronic transport in nanoscale devices. Several recent Markovian approaches use "extended reservoirs"-explicit degrees of freedom associated with the electrodes-distinguishing them from many previous classes of master equations. Starting from a Lindblad equation, we develop a common foundation for these approaches...
متن کاملNon-Markovian qubit decoherence during dispersive readout
We study qubit decoherence under generalized dispersive readout, i.e., we investigate a qubit coupled to a resonantly driven dissipative harmonic oscillator. We provide a complete picture by allowing for arbitrarily large qubit-oscillator detuning and by considering also a coupling to the square of the oscillator coordinate, which is relevant for flux qubits. Analytical results for the decohere...
متن کاملDescription of Quantum Dynamics of Open Systems Based on Collision-Like Models
Master equations in the Lindblad form describe evolution of open quantum systems that are completely positive and simultaneously have a semigroup property. We analyze the possibility to derive this type of master equations from an intrinsically discrete dynamics that is modelled as a sequence of collisions between a given quantum system (a qubit) with particles that form the environment. In ord...
